Yavapai College is one of three community colleges in the nation to host an OLLI program. The classes, run by facilitators, harness the technical expertise of its members and the interests of its own student base to create its curriculum. Members are eager to build friendships and enthusiastic about learning more about the world around them. The afternoon will include a retrospective on OLLI’s early days, a few awards for the program’s pioneers, and many reunions and fond recollections shared between friends.Įstablished as the Yavapai Learning Institute in 1994 by a group of local retirees, led by Henry McMonagle, Yavapai College’s OLLI program has evolved from a small offering of Friday classes to a vibrant social network of adventurous seniors, supported by a $2 million dollar endowment from the Osher Foundation.
